I knew that there was a Kewpie factory in Sengawa, Chofu City, but I didn’t know it was along Koshu Kaido.
Kewpie-chan welcomed me for an early New Year’s walk in her sunny clothes.

This is a continuation of my walk to Sasazuka about Koshu Kaido.
The Koshu Kaido in this area is now a side road of the expressway.
To be honest, walking along the highway is not very interesting, as the scenery is almost the same.

But I found something a little interesting. It’s a kilopost.
That’s not interesting at all.
Well, yes, it is. But this kilometer post says 13km, and the destination indicator hill behind it says 123km to Kofu.
What does that mean?
If you add these together, it’s 134km. That’s a difference of three kilometers.

Hmm. It’s true. Japan has become a country that does a lot of random calculations. The units of the mileage markers are written in old Chinese characters, so it might be the result of surveying in the old days when accuracy was not so good.
It’s impossible for a survey to have an error of 3km. The actual situation is probably something like the following.
The milepost in Nihonbashi is the distance to Kofu “City”. I guess they used the border with Kofu City as the survey point.
The destination board, on the other hand, shows the distance to “Kofu”. It may be the prefectural office, the city hall, the train station, or the road marker.

After walking about 10km, I found Kewpie! Like New Year’s, I’m wearing a sunny kimono
Will the person in charge go to Kewpie and change her clothes? Or will Kewpie be taken down once? Either way, it’s hard work.
Kewpie spread her arms and cheered me up.
