Yagami Campus
Until now, I have spent my life with little connection to Keio University. However, this time, I happened to have some business to do in Hiyoshi, and after finishing it, I decided to visit the Yagami Campus, where the Faculty of Science and Technology is located, out of curiosity.
Head northeast in front of the Hiyoshi station and turn right after about 500 meters.
The entrance to the Yagami campus was another 500 meters down the road. The road leading to the gate is quite uphill and tiring. It also said that the gate was off-limits to those who were not related to the campus, so I meekly decided to end my visit there.
The end.
Shimosueyoshi
However, since I had come all the way to Kanagawa Prefecture, I decided to continue my walk.
I checked on my phone and found Tsurumi Station about 5.5 kilometers away in a straight line, so I decided to go there.
After crossing the Shinkansen line, I came to the Yagami River, and after walking south along the river, I soon came to the Tsurumi River. It was fun to walk along the wide river. It heals the soul.
I followed the Tsurumi River in a southeasterly direction, and after about 1.2 km, I saw a large bridge, so I crossed it to the right bank.
I usually like to take the narrow road, but I somehow followed the thick road and turned left, and after about 1.5 km, I came to an intersection with Daini Keihin.
I was surprised to see a sign at the intersection.

Shimosueyoshi Intersection
Shimomatsu-kichi? Shita-Suekichi? Shimomatsuyoshi? It looks like a fortune.
The correct answer is Shimosueyoshi (you can also see the romanization in the picture). In fact, many of you probably know the name of this place.
In the Pleistocene era, about 125,000 years ago, the Kanto region was covered by a wide sea, and the stratum deposited on the sea floor at that time was the Shimosueyoshi Formation, which is a model of this area. Yodobashi-dai in Shinjuku and Ebara-dai in Ota and Setagaya wards also belong to the Shimosueyoshi surface.
Other surfaces include the Tama surface, Musashino surface, Tachikawa surface, and Haijima surface. Shimosueyoshi surface has been very interesting to me because of its hard-to-read name.
I was thrilled to happen upon Shimosueyoshi, which I had been planning to visit someday, and looked around the intersection to see if there was a sign with some explanation. But I couldn’t find any. If you could put up a large, easy-to-understand sign, it would be a great learning experience. (I apologize if the sign already exists and I’m just not looking hard enough.)
