The first walk of the year was the first walk along Kanpachi (Loop Route 8).

Akabane

The Kanpachi begins at the Akabane intersection. I have passed through Akabane Intersection when I walked along the Sumida River, but at that time, I did not know that it was the starting and ending point of the Kanpachi.

赤羽駅

Akabane Station

Anyway, I got off at Akabane station.

東口広場のオブジェ

Objet d’art at East Exit Plaza

There was a mysterious object in the east exit plaza. Ruins?

赤羽スズラン通りにつながる道

Road leading to Akabane Suzuran Street

The last time I came here, I went down Ichibangai (1st Avenue).
Taking the same street would be boring and uninventive, so I will take the road that leads to Akabane Suzuran Dori.
Turn left onto East Main Street, then left again onto North Main Street (Route 122).

赤羽交差点

Akabane Intersection

Continue straight ahead to the Akabane intersection.
Kitahon-dori (North Main Street) turns right at the intersection and continues.
The straight road is Kanpachi-dori (Tokyo Metropolitan Route 311), which begins here.

東北本線と赤羽台

Tohoku Honsen and Akabanedai

Looking to the left, Tohoku Honsen (the Northeast Main Line) can be seen. The high place with trees on the other side of it is Akabanedai.

東北本線のガード

Guard of Tohoku Honsen

Tohoku Honsen will move northward.
Kanpachi crosses here as it moves in a westerly direction, edging the foot of Akabanedai.

埼京線及び東北・北陸新幹線のガード

Guard for Saikyo Line and Tohoku and Hokuriku Shinkansen

The Saikyo Line and the Tohoku/Hokuriku Shinkansen come out again, passing through Akabane-dai in a tunnel. Immediately afterwards, the train makes a slight right curve to cross the Shinkagishi River at right angles. The photo shows that right curve.

Shinkashi River

東京水辺ライン小豆沢のりば

Tokyo Waterfront Line Azusawa Stop

Discover the Azusawa stop on the Tokyo Waterfront Line!
Once a month, a “special yurabura service” is offered. This is a circular route that starts from the Shinkashi River, down the Arakawa River, through Tokyo Bay, up the Sumida River, and back to the Shinkashi River. The time required for a round trip is approximately 3 hours. Reservations are required by phone and the fee was 3,400 yen.

I think it would be fun to take a ride with someone over drinks and food.

新河岸大橋

Shinkashi Bridge

Looking upstream from the Azusawa stop, the Shinkashi Bridge can be seen.
The aforementioned Akabanedai is a river terrace of the Shinkagishi River.。

Shimura

志村ポンプ所

Shimura Pumping Station

Shimura Pump Station was located.
This facility is used to pump up rainwater that has flowed into the sewer pipes and discharge it into the Shinkagishi River.
It has the capacity to pump up water equivalent to a 25-meter swimming pool in one minute. That’s amazing!

セブンタウン

Seventown

Seventown is like a shopping center. It looks like a fun place to spend time on rainy days. But I couldn’t go there because it was on the other side of the road.

どこに続く通りでしょう?

Where does the street lead to?

It is an ordinary narrow street. Can you see where it leads?

It is the old Nakasendo, which leads to Kyoto.
I must have walked here 5 years ago, but I do not remember this view. However, I remember well Shimura Ichirizuka, located about 700m further from here in the direction of Nihonbashi, because it was magnificent.
If you are interested in Ichirizuka, I recommend you to see it.

出井川緑道

Deigawa Greenway

I found the Dei River Greenway. This culverted river also joins the Shinkashi River.

御成塚通りとの交差点

Intersection with Onarizuka Street

In order not to work too hard at the beginning of the New Year, I decided to end today’s walk on Kanpachi-dori at the intersection with Onarizuka-dori.

志村三丁目駅

Shimura 3-chome Station

Shimura 3-chome station. This station is located under a platform, so even though it is a subway, the station is above ground. It goes underground on the way to the next Shimura-sakaue station.
